This month’s spotlight shines on the Rochester Area Employment Network (RAEN). A coalition of agencies in the Rochester, NY area, RAEN works collectively to promote the employment of individuals with disabilities through education, outreach, and training opportunities. Since its formation in 1983, RAEN has proven to be a valuable community resource for area employers, service providers and workers with disabilities.

Congress designated each October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). This effort is to educate the American public about issues related to disability and employment and to acknowledge the employment needs and contributions of individuals with all types of disabilities.

 
NDEAM Recognition Event
In honor of NDEAM, an annual awards luncheon is held each Fall to honor outstanding efforts made by employers in hiring qualified applicants; specifically those who have gone above and beyond what is required by law. Factors in determining winners include the number of people employed, innovations made by the business, and examples of the high level of commitment demonstrated in providing accommodations and career advancement opportunities over time.
When:  Wednesday, October 5th
Registration and breakfast begin at 8:00am
Program runs from 8:30-10:30am
