You probably studied a foreign language in high school and college to get those mandatory credits needed for your degree, but have you kept up with your skills?
As our culture in America continues to grow more and more diverse, the need for bilingual (or even multilingual employees) is on the rise. According to the 2010 American Community Survey conducted by the US Census Bureau, Spanish is the primary language spoken at home by almost 37 million people aged five or older.
Summer is over, the skies are gray, and you’re having trouble getting back in the groove. Here are a few small tips to help you get back on the ride towards productivity!
Clean your desk. Cleaning doesn’t have to be just for spring. Clean out your drawers and redecorate your work space. It will feel new and fresh while hopefully giving you a newfound energy to work hard (maybe?)! If you are REALLY feeling the need for a more drastic change, try moving your office furniture around. Although if you are in a half-pod like me, the craziest thing I can do is move my computer a few inches to the left…
Once looked at negatively, career coaching now has a more positive image. Also known as leadership development, career coaching is when an outsider is brought into an organization to prepare employees for a promotion or new position. It is also less frequently used to address poor performance issues.
What does your career path look like at your organization? Have you expressed interest in what direction you would like to take, or maybe even what direction your boss would like to see you head in? If yes, then what are you doing to prepare for these next steps?

We all hear that most jobs (75% to 85%, reportedly) are not advertised in the newspaper or posted on web job boards. These invisible jobs are the infamous "hidden job market," and you gain knowledge of the jobs by networking your way into them. As I thought about the importance of networking; not only to obtain employment but as a natural approach and discipline to developing ones career I did some research on how much “self-help” guides, books, seminars, boot camps, online discussion groups an individual can leverage; in fact I could reference 4,951 web sites with just one search effort! Wow... a little overwhelming yet why so much attention?
We are all project managers. If you are a recruiter, a sales rep, an administrative assistant, or a purchasing agent, all of our productivity relies on our being expert time and project managers.
How we plan for, manage and organize our resources will determine if we actually meet the goals and objectives.
